You know something is off, but not what to ask for

Most people arrive able to describe the feeling and unable to describe the fix. The smile looks tired. The teeth seem shorter than they used to. Something about the line of the edges does not sit right, and the more you look at photographs the more you see it without being able to name it.

So you start researching treatments instead of results, and the internet hands you a list: veneers, whitening, aligners, bonding, crowns. Each one promises something, none of them tells you which problem you actually have, and you end up choosing a procedure before anyone has diagnosed the situation.

Smile design reverses that order. The result is designed first, from your face. What it takes to get there comes second, and sometimes it is far less than you expected.

What smile design is, and what it is not

Smile design is a planning method, not a treatment in itself. It uses photographs of your face, a 3D scan of your teeth and a digital design to establish the result before any decision is made about how to produce it. Lip line, facial proportion, the way your upper lip moves when you speak and the amount of tooth that shows at rest all feed into it. The plan that comes out of it may involve veneers, or aligners, or whitening and reshaping, or a combination, and occasionally it concludes that very little needs to be done at all.

It is not a guarantee of a specific outcome, and it is not a substitute for treating what is underneath. Gum disease, decay, a bite that is wearing your teeth down or a jaw problem come before aesthetics, always. A design placed over an unresolved problem is a design with an expiry date.

It is also not a decision taken out of your hands. The design is a proposal that you see, wear and change.

How it works

  1. 01

    Photographs and scan

Facial and intraoral photographs and a 3D scan of both arches. This is the raw material, and it is why the session takes longer than a regular appointment.

  2. 02

    The digital design

Dr. Cynthia designs the proportions, the length, the edge line and the shade against your facial reference points, not against a template.

  3. 03

    The trial smile

The design is transferred into your mouth as a physical trial smile. You speak with it, smile with it and photograph it, and anything that does not feel like you is adjusted before it becomes permanent.

  4. 04

    Your plan

You leave with the treatment required to reach the approved result, a timeline and an itemized price. What happens next is your decision, taken with the result already in front of you.

The result exists before the treatment does

The trial smile is what separates this from a conversation about shades and catalogs. It converts an irreversible choice into a reversible one, because every disagreement happens while the change is still temporary and still removable.

It is also the reason patients travel here. When someone flies in for treatment, discovering on the final day that the result is not what they pictured is not an inconvenience, it is a disaster.

Frequently asked

Is the smile design consultation free?

Yes, the smile design consultation is currently complimentary. It includes facial photographs, a 3D scan and a digital preview of your smile. It is a cosmetic consultation and no treatment is performed at that visit.

Is digital smile design the same as veneers?

No. Smile design is how the result is planned. Veneers are one of several ways to produce it. Some plans involve veneers, others involve aligners, whitening or reshaping, and many involve a combination.

How long does the session take?

Longer than a regular appointment, because photographs, the scan and the conversation all happen in the same visit. The front desk will tell you how much time to set aside when you book.

Can I change the design after I see it?

That is the purpose of the trial smile. Length, shape, edge line and shade are all adjustable at that stage.

What if the design shows I need less treatment than I thought?

Then you will be told exactly that. It happens more often than people expect, particularly with patients who arrived convinced they needed a full set of veneers.

Do I have to commit to treatment after the design?

No. You leave with the plan and the price, and you decide in your own time.

Ready to see your smile before you decide?
